Samsung I8700 Omnia 7

It is a known fact that Samsung is one of the manufacturers to bring Windows Phone 7 mobile phones. Samsung had already announced that it will introduce its WP 7 handsets this year, and it has kept its promise by revealing the I8700 Omnia 7, which is expected to arrive within the Q4 of 2010. Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 is not the only device to get powered by WP 7; the other handsets include HTC HD7 and lg-e900-optimus7. According to the specifications that are released by the company, it is clear that the device is going to compete with some of the best smart phones that are dominating the market at present.
To run this new brand of operating system, 1 GHz processors, dedicated GPUs and WVGA screen are compulsory. Therefore, it is evident that all these features are included in the Samsung I8700 mobile phone. Therefore, it seems that I8700 Omnia 7 is going to be the new Galaxy S of the latest mobile operating system. Some of the common features of this Samsung device are Galaxy S are 1GHz Snapdragon powerplant, Super AMOLED screen, 5 MP camera, and HD recorder. We will discuss on the features and the specifications in the following sections of this review.

Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 – the Network and Connectivity

As we all know that the network and the connectivity features are the most crucial aspects for any mobile phone. If the network support is not up to the mark, then the basic need of a mobile phone, which is to establish communication, will not be fulfilled. Therefore, all the manufacturers try to maintain decent network support in the devices. Samsung I8700 also features a good network support with its quad band 2G network of GSM 850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900, and 3G HSDPA 900/ 2100.
Data is a crucial feature for the mobile phones, particularly the smart phones. I8700 Omnia 7 includes GPRS and EDGE to support data transfer at a regular speed. However, high speed browsing and internet connectivity is not possible with just the GPRS and EDGE support. Therefore, the device includes Wi-Fi® 802.11 b/g/n and HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps speed. The presence of Wi Fi and 3G assures that the users can access the internet and the internet related applications at a good speed.
If you want to send or receive to/from other compatible devices, then you can achieve that with both with-cable and wireless format. You can plug-in the microUSB v2.0 to transfer files or you can use Bluetooth® v2.1 for wireless transfers for the same purpose.

Samsung Omnia 7 – the Display

In terms of the look, I8700 Omnia 7 is not very different from another Windows phone 7 handset called LG E900 Optimus 7. For both the handsets, the majority of the frontal portion is dominated by the display screen. On top of the display, you will find the logo of the manufacturer (another logo is on the back). The back panel also includes the camera lens of the mobile phone. The device is quite slim and its measurement is 122.4 x 64.2 x 11 mm and it weighs 138.2 grams.
The display of the device is one of its major attractions. As we mentioned above, the display is quite similar to that of Galaxy S and hence it also comes with a Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen. The resolution of the display is 480 x 800 pixels and the size of the screen is 4.0 inches. Some of the major highlights of the display include accelerometer sensor for UI auto rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn off, and multi touch input method.

Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 Review – the Memory

Memory is definitely one of the most crucial features for the smart phones. Without proper memory capacity, it is not possible to access all the features and applications of a smart phone in a smooth manner. Therefore, the manufacturers are focusing on providing good storage capacity on the devices so that the users can make the best use of the features and applications. Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 comes with two versions- one version has 8GB internal memory and the other one features 16 GB. In terms of internal memory, this much of storage capacity is definitely impressive. However, there is a drawback in the handset as it omits the inclusion of the microSD™ card slot. This means the memory is rigid and cannot be expanded for higher limits. When many other smart phones are offering expandable memory up to 32GB, the exclusion of this feature might call for some criticism.

Samsung Omnia 7 Review – the Camera

Multimedia features are definitely crucial to increase the popularity of the handsets. Many people verify the multimedia features and then take a decision to buy a mobile phone. Among the other multimedia features, camera is quite popular. Inclusion of a good camera in a feature-rich smart phone definitely makes a great combination. Omnia 7 I8700 also has a decent camera feature as it comes with a 5 mega pixel snapper that includes LED flash and auto focus. The resolution of the camera is 2592 x 1944 pixels and the other prominent highlights of the camera are image stabilization and geo tagging. The snapper can also record videos at 720p@25fps, but the secondary camera for video calling is missing.

Samsung I8700 Omnia 7 – Music and Video

Other prominent multimedia features apart from camera are music and video player. Omnia 7 is good with these entertainment features as well as the handset includes a music player that can play MP3/ WAV/ WMA/ eAAC+ files, and a video player that can stream MP4/ H.264/ H.263/ WMV files.
